Professor Mak has been teaching in CUHK for 30 years. He was well-known as the man wearing a handlebar moustache and walking around the campus in a hunting suit and a whip. 130 of his students successfully went abroad to study for Ph.D. under his “Ph.D. formula”, including Professor Tsui Lap Chee, former Vice-Chancellor of HKU.
